FAQ

Are these templates legally binding?

They are strong starting points, not substitutes for legal counsel. Financial and medical powers of attorney require notarization in most states and should be reviewed by a licensed attorney before signing. The FERPA release and HIPAA authorization forms are informational templates, your student’s university may have their own preferred version.

Can I share these with other parents?

Yes, please. These were built to help as many families as possible. Share this page directly, all downloads are always free here, no signup required.

How often are these resources updated?

We review and update toolkits annually and whenever there are significant changes to relevant laws or programs. All resources on this page are current for the 2026-27 academic year.

Do I need the book to use these resources?

Not at all. Every toolkit stands on its own. The Book Companion section surfaces resources most referenced in the guide, but they are useful whether or not you have read it.
