Start with the essentials

Lodging is the piece that can fill fastest on a game weekend, so it is worth locking in first.

Official dates

Clemson holds Fall Family Weekend on September 18 to 20, 2026. It is built around the home football game against North Carolina on Saturday, September 19, plus academic open houses, outdoor recreation, a trivia night, and a family brunch across campus.

Plan around this

Family Weekend overlaps with the Clemson vs. North Carolina home game, so lodging near campus can be in high demand. Clemson itself recommends making lodging arrangements early for Family Weekend. Treat the dates as fixed and book lodging first, then buy game tickets and register for events.

Registration and tickets

Three things to handle, in this order.

Step 1

Register for Family Weekend

Registration opened July 15, 2026 through the Clemson Parent & Family Experience portal. The full schedule lives in the Guidebook app. Questions go to cufamilies@clemson.edu or 864-656-0515.

Step 2

Buy football tickets separately

Game tickets for Clemson vs. North Carolina are sold separately from Family Weekend registration. Buy through Clemson Athletics first; the resale market is a backup only if the official allocation is gone.

Compare resale ticket prices

Step 3

Lock lodging before both

You do not need tickets or a registration confirmation to book a refundable hotel room. Rooms are the scarce resource, so reserve first and adjust later.

When hotels sell out (and how to beat it)

Clemson is a small town, so the on-campus and near-campus hotel supply is limited and gets absorbed fast on a Family Weekend that doubles as a game day.

Book now, cancel later

Reserve a refundable room today even if your plans are not final. You can rebook if a better option opens up, but you cannot conjure a room that is already gone.

Widen the radius

If downtown Clemson and Seneca are full, Anderson and Greenville still have rooms and are an easy morning drive in. See the Where to Stay table below.

Consider a home rental

For a family of four or a multi-night stay, a whole-home rental near Lake Hartwell often beats three hotel rooms on both price and space.

Where to stay: the parent lodging map

Family Weekend overlaps with a Clemson home football game, so lodging near campus can be in high demand. If you are traveling in, compare lodging for September 18 to 20 before you build the rest of your itinerary.

This is the part generic travel sites cannot produce at scale. Every area near Clemson, what it is best for, roughly how far it is from campus, and how much lodging actually exists there. Drive times are approximate and heavier on game day.

Area Drive to campus Best for Typical price Hotel density
Downtown Clemson 5 to 10 min Walking to campus and events, no game-day driving $$$ Low, sells out first
Central / Pendleton 10 to 15 min Close-in value, quieter $$ Low to medium
Seneca 15 to 20 min Chain hotels, easy access, good middle ground $$ Medium
Lake Hartwell / Keowee 15 to 25 min Whole-home rentals, families, longer stays $$ to $$$ Rentals, not hotels
Anderson 25 to 30 min Better rates when Clemson is full $$ Medium to high
Greenville 45 min to 1 hr Restaurants, nightlife, most rooms, turn it into a mini trip $$ to $$$ High

Rule of thumb: if you want zero game-day driving, pay up for Clemson or Central. If you want value or you struck out on close-in rooms, Anderson and Greenville are the smart fallbacks.

2026 Clemson home football schedule

Clemson plays seven home games at Memorial Stadium in 2026. Family Weekend is the North Carolina game. The South Carolina game is the in-state rivalry (the Palmetto Bowl) and is the other weekend where lodging spikes.

Date Opponent Notes
Sat, Sept 12 Georgia Southern Home opener
Sat, Sept 19 North CarolinaFamily Weekend Noon ET, ESPN
Sat, Oct 3 Miami (Fla.) Marquee ACC matchup
Sat, Oct 17 Charleston Southern Non-conference
Sat, Oct 24 Virginia Tech ACC
Sat, Nov 14 Georgia Tech ACC
Sat, Nov 28 South CarolinaRivalry Palmetto Bowl, book far ahead

Kickoff for Clemson vs. North Carolina is confirmed for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Kickoff times for the other home games are still set by TV networks closer to each date, so do not book flights around those until announced. See the official Clemson Athletics schedule for updates.

Closest airports

GSP is the obvious choice for most families. Charlotte and Atlanta are worth checking only if the fare gap is large or you are connecting a broader trip.

Airport Distance Drive time Use it when
GSP Greenville-Spartanburg About 45 mi About 1 hr Your default. Closest, simplest.
CLT Charlotte About 130 mi About 2.5 hr Bigger hub, more nonstops, cheaper fares.
ATL Atlanta About 130 mi About 2.5 hr Huge fare selection if you are flexible.
AVL Asheville About 60 mi Roughly 1.5 hr Add a mountains day on the way in or out.

Find flights

Search GSP first, then compare Charlotte and Atlanta before you commit. Fares to a small regional airport on a game weekend climb the longer you wait.

Kiwi.com searches hundreds of airlines at once, including the budget carriers many sites skip.

Rental cars

You will want a car. GSP to Clemson is a real drive, campus and the surrounding towns are spread out, and rideshare supply near a small college town is thin on a game day.

GetRentACar compares the rental companies at GSP in one search. If you would rather not drive, a private airport transfer can meet you at arrivals.

Things to do around Clemson

Family Weekend is really Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Here is how families fill the non-game hours, plus a Viator module for tours and tickets.

On campus

The Clemson essentials

Walk the campus with your student, see Memorial Stadium and Howard’s Rock, grab ice cream at the ’55 Exchange (student-made), and visit the South Carolina Botanical Garden on campus.

15 to 25 min

Lake Hartwell and Keowee

Boat rentals, lakeside dining, and easy fall hikes at Table Rock and Issaqueena Falls if the weather is good.

45 min

Downtown Greenville

A genuinely walkable downtown. Falls Park on the Reedy, the suspension bridge, and a deep restaurant scene make it the natural Friday-night or Sunday stop.

1.5 hr

Asheville day trip

Biltmore, Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks, and breweries. Best as a bookend if you are flying into or out of AVL.

For tours, attractions, and city passes, these reach the nearby cities better than Clemson itself. Useful for a Greenville or Asheville day.

Where to eat

A short, honest list of parent-friendly spots. Reservations are essential for Saturday of Family Weekend, so book the moment your dates are set.

Clemson

Near campus

Downtown Clemson has the classic college-town lineup within walking distance of campus. Expect long waits on game day, so aim for an early or late seating, or eat in Seneca.

Seneca

A few minutes out

More tables and shorter waits than downtown Clemson on a busy Saturday, with easy parking. A good plan B for a family dinner.

Greenville

Worth the drive

If you are staying in Greenville, its downtown is a destination in its own right. Make Friday or Sunday dinner your Greenville night.

Game-day parking and getting around

Parking is the part that trips up first-time visiting families, because game-day rules differ from a normal campus visit.

Buy a guest parking permit

Visiting parents can buy a Football Guest Parking Permit for $12 in person from Parking and Transportation Services on the Friday before the game, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are limited and not guaranteed. R-1 Ext and R-10 are the recommended visitor lots.

Know the lot-opening time

For a noon kickoff, football parking lots open at 6 a.m. Football parking rules supersede normal campus parking, and reserved areas start clearing at 12:01 a.m. game day. See Clemson Parking and Transportation for the full rules.

Arrive early, leave late

Traffic into a small town on a game day is real. Get in a few hours before kickoff to tailgate, and plan to linger after the game rather than sit in the exit crush.

Stay close if you can

The single biggest quality-of-life upgrade is lodging you can walk from, so you skip game-day driving and parking entirely. That is why the close-in rooms go first.
