UTEP’s campus is visually unlike any other university campus in the United States: in the 1910s, the wife of the dean of engineering discovered in National Geographic magazine photographs of the monastery buildings of Bhutan (the Himalayan kingdom), and convinced the college to adopt the Bhutanese architectural style for the campus buildings. A Note on Miners Identity and Financial Aid
UTEP’s athletic teams are the Miners, competing in Conference USA at the Division I level. The colors are orange, navy, and white.

El Paso International Airport (ELP) is approximately 15 minutes from the UTEP campus via I-10 west, served by American, Southwest, United, Delta, Frontier, and other carriers from major national markets. ELP’s connectivity has improved significantly with El Paso’s population growth, and direct flights from many major Texas, California, and other markets are available.
For families driving, I-10 connects El Paso to Tucson (320 miles west) and San Antonio (600 miles east). US-54 connects north to Alamogordo and White Sands. UTEP refunds tuition on a declining schedule after the semester starts, so timing a withdrawal matters.
The refund percentage is calculated on the total tuition and mandatory/incidental fees assessed, not on the amount actually paid, and complete withdrawal requests submitted after the standard deadline (or requiring a refund past that point) must go through the University Student Withdrawal Committee rather than being processed automatically by the Registrar.
Refund schedule: For standard length (10 week or longer) terms, UTEP refunds 100% if withdrawn before the first class day, then declining through 80%, 70%, 50%, and 25% across the following weeks (matching the Texas statutory schedule), and 0% after that.
